IQN (NewsDesk): Houthi forces fired five ballistic missiles at the Al Maashiq presidential palace in the port city of Aden on Thursday, killing two security guards and wounding at least six other people, Yemeni officials said. Aden is the seat of Yemen’s internationally recognised government.
Information Minister Moammar al Eryani said the prime minister and other ministers were unharmed, though many others were injured. Some reports from government military sources put the toll higher, at four dead and ten wounded. The government said all ministers would remain in Aden despite the attack, and vowed that Yemen’s future would not be held hostage by a militia.
Houthi media said the group had struck a military operations headquarters led by Saudi officers, along with weapons depots. Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree said Saudi military sites in Aden were legitimate targets.
The attack comes amid a major offensive by pro government forces against the Iran backed Houthis, supported by Saudi air power. The Houthis have also fired missiles and drones at airports, energy facilities and military bases in Saudi Arabia in retaliation for strikes on the territory they control, including the capital Sanaa. Earlier this week a Houthi strike killed 13 people at Riyadh’s international airport, the deadliest attack in Saudi Arabia in more than a decade.
