IQN (NewsDesk): German quantum computing company planqc has won the Made in Europe Award 2026, presented in Berlin, in recognition of the company’s efforts to bring quantum computer manufacturing and development back onto European soil rather than relying on hardware built elsewhere.
The award was accepted by Alexander Glätzle, CEO and co founder of planqc, which specializes in neutral atom based quantum computing technology. The recognition reflects a broader European push to establish greater technological sovereignty in emerging fields like quantum computing, as governments and companies across the continent increasingly emphasize the strategic importance of domestic manufacturing capacity for critical and dual use technologies.
The award adds to a growing list of European initiatives aimed at strengthening the continent’s position in the global quantum computing race, as EU member states continue investing in both research institutions and commercial quantum hardware companies in an effort to reduce long term dependence on quantum technology developed in the United States and China.
