Nvidia launches Ising, world’s first open source quantum AI model family

IQN (NewsDesk): Nvidia has announced the launch of Ising, a new family of open source quantum AI models designed to help researchers and enterprises build quantum processors capable of running genuinely useful applications, marking the company’s latest push to position its AI computing tools as core infrastructure for the quantum industry.

According to Nvidia, achieving useful quantum applications at scale requires major breakthroughs in two areas in particular, quantum processor calibration and quantum error correction, and the company argues that artificial intelligence is key to turning today’s still noisy, error prone quantum processors into large scale, reliable machines. By releasing Ising as an open model family, Nvidia says developers can build high performance AI tools for their quantum hardware while retaining full control over their own data and infrastructure, rather than relying on closed, proprietary systems.

The announcement has already drawn adoption from a notably broad cross section of the quantum research community. Early adopters include Academia Sinica, Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory, Harvard’s John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, Infleqtion, IQM Quantum Computers, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory’s Advanced Quantum Testbed, and the UK’s National Physical Laboratory, spanning both academic and applied research institutions across multiple continents.

The move builds on Nvidia’s broader strategy of embedding itself across the quantum computing stack through platforms like CUDA Q, positioning the company as a common software and AI layer underpinning hybrid quantum classical research regardless of which hardware vendor a given lab or company ultimately relies on.
